मेरठ शहर के बीचों बीच 2000 साल से भी पुराना एक टीला मिला है. एक इतिहासकार के दावे के बाद एएसआई की टीम ने इस कि जांच की और बताया कि यह टीला 2000 साल से भी पुराना है और मौर्यकालीन से जोड़ा जा सकता है. भारतीय पुरातत्व विभाग की टीम ने जब इस स्थान की पड़ताल करनी शुरू की तो उसे मौर्यकालीन सभ्यता के चिन्ह नजर आई. एएसआई के अफसरों का कहना है कि इस टीले की जांच अब वैज्ञानिक विधि से की जाएगी. अफसरों का कहना है कि आबादी के बीचो बीच स्थित इस टीले को संरक्षित करने के लिए वो ज़िला प्रशासन से भी बात करेगा.
The Meerut circle of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has discovered a structure in Meerut which they have identified as a 2000-year-old Mauryan-era brick platform. “A large part of the structure is in the form of a 30m by 35m platform at Vikas Puri. The ancient site is undoubtedly one from the Mauryan period because the bricks are typical of the era,” Brajsundar Gadnayak, superintending archaeologist of the Meerut circle of ASI, was quoted by TOI as saying.
