कोलकाता के अलीमुद्दीन स्ट्रीट पर मुस्लिम समुदाय ने कौमी एकता का शानदार उदाहरण पेश किया है. यहां पर इन लोगों ने 15 साल से बंद हुई दुर्गा पूजा को एक बार फिर से शुरू किया है. दरअसल अलीमुद्दीन स्ट्रीट के पास वाले इलाके से हिंदू परिवारों के चले जाने के बाद पिछले 15 सालों से यहां दुर्गा पूजा भी बंद हो गई थी. मध्य कोलकाता के इस मुस्लिम बहुल इलाके में लगभग 8 परिवार रहते थे. लेकिन 4 परिवारों के यहां से चले जाने के बाद दुर्गा पूजा भी बंद हो गई. हालांकि इस साल यहां रहने वाले बाकी के 3 हिंदू परिवारों ने दुर्गा पूजा को फिर से शुरू करने की इच्छा जाहिर की. जिसे इलाके के मुस्लिम युवकों ने सहर्ष स्वीकार कर लिया.

They arranged for the Durga idol and a Hindu priest as well. There has been no such festivities in the said area, for the last 15 years, because majority of families living there are Muslims. The organizer, Tauseef, believes that there is no harm in respecting other cultures and traditions. Says, "it's not a political move." Such stories make people believe that communal harmony in India is possible.
