झारखंड के धनबाद में दहेज प्रथा के विरोध की एक और बड़ी मिसाल देखने को मिली. दरअसल वहां आकाश नाम के एक दूल्हे ने महज एक रु. शगुन लेकर शादी की. इसको लेकर कोयलांचल में आकाश की काफ़ी तारीफ़ हो रही है. आकाश ने दहेज बिना शादी करने का फ़ैसला पहले ही कर रखा था. इस फैसले का साथ उसके माता-पिता ने भी दिया. इसी वजह से शादी में जब लड़की पक्ष से एक लाख 51 हज़ार रु. का चेक और कुछ चीज़ें मिलीं, तो आकाश के पिता ने इसे लौटा दिया. अपने ससुराल पक्ष के इस फ़ैसले पर दुल्हन मुस्कान के चहरे की मुस्कान और बढ़ गई.
