श्री सत्यनारायण व्रत कथा को मुख्य रुप से पूर्णिमा तिथि पर संपन्न किया जाता है. इसके अतिरिक्त किसी भी शुभ कार्य को आरंभ करने हेतु भी श्री सत्यनारायण भगवान की कथा का श्रवण किया जाता है. मान्यथा है कि भगवान सत्यनारायण की कथा एवं व्रत का पालन करने से जीवन में आने वाले संकटों एवं परेशानियों से मिक्ति प्राप्त होती है.
