केदारनाथ को भगवान शिव का परमधाम माना जाता है. जहां भगवान खुद शिवलिंग स्वरूप में विराजमान हैं. इनके दर्शन कर शिव भक्त मोक्ष पाते हैं. लेकिन भगवान शिव शीतकाल में अपने भक्तों को अपने दरबार में दर्शन नहीं देते हैं, क्योंकि उस वक़्त बर्फबारी के कारण मंदिर के कपाट बंद हो जाते हैं. इस दौरान भगवान केदार की डोली ऊखीमठ के लिए रवाना हो जाती है.
